Incessant rainfall in Uttarakhand creates destruction; Public Property worth Rs. 2000 Cr destroyed

Dehradun, October 23: Incessant rainfall that flooded the roads and triggered landslides in the Kumaon division in Uttarakhand, has destroyed public property worth Rs. 2000 crore in the last few days. The rescue department has rescued over 7800 tourists trapped in various areas in the division due to heavy rains. Chief Minister has asked the administration to focus on restoring power and water supply as well as road connectivity which was disrupted due to heavy rains in the last few days.

The Divisional Commissioner of Kumaon, Sushil Kumar told the media that the loss of private property will be ascertained after having a ground survey that is held by the concerned officials. He further added that seven choppers of the Indian Air Force and one of the private companies are involved in the rescue and relief work.
The rescue team included people from the army, ITBP, NDRF, SDRF, and state police. The focus is to provide relief materials including food and medicines to the rescued people. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a ground survey of the affected areas of Pauri Garhwal and Chamoli districts yesterday and met the families of the deceased, and assured them all possible help from his government.
Meanwhile, Char Dham Yatra is continuing in the state. According to the Char Dham Devasthanam Board, a total of 2 lakh 47 thousand pilgrims visited the Char Dham Shrines since the commencement of the Yatra last month.
