Bangladesh PM orders strict action against who incited violence using religion

The Indian High Commission is also going to hold talks with the Bangladesh government over the recent spate of communal attacks against the Hindu community.

Dhaka, October 20: Following the series of communal violence against minorities in the Muslim majority country, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina instructed her home minister to initiate immediate action against those who incited violence using religion.

During the weekly Cabinet meeting, Hasina instructed Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan to initiate immediate action against those who incited violence using religion. She has instructed the home ministry to remain vigilant and take steps to prevent such incidents from recurring, Islam. She also urged the people of the country not to trust anything on social media without fact-checking.
 
 
Earlier, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan has claimed that the attacks were 'pre-planned and aimed at destroying communal harmony in the country.
 
The scathing attack on the Hindus has intensified in Bangladesh since last Wednesday after a Facebook rumor claiming ‘insult to Quran’ at a Durga Puja pandal went viral on social media. The Islamists attacked the Ram Thakur Ashram and vandalised 10 temples and puja pandals including Mongola, Nabadurga, Bijoya, Trishul, and Koatbari Puja Pandal. Reports suggest that the mob vandalized more than 315 Temples and their Idols and looted all valuable things in more than 30 districts of Bangladesh in the span of 3days.
 
Recently, sixty-six houses were vandalized and at least 20 homes of Hindus were set on fire in Bangladesh over an alleged blasphemous social media post. At least seven people died in the violence that is broken out since last week.
 
 
Meanwhile, the Indian High Commission is also going to hold talks with the Bangladesh government over the recent spate of communal attacks against the Hindu community. According to MoS Home Nisith Pramanik, the Centre has expressed concern over the incidents of violence against Druga puja processions and Hindu temples in Bangladesh.
 
The Central government is concerned. Bangladesh government is investigating the matter and working effectively towards it. Indian High Commission will also hold discussions with the Bangladesh govt soon," said MoS Home Nisith Pramanik.
