US envoy calls on Army Chief to discuss issues of mutual interest

New Delhi, Jan 19: After the US emphasized India's desire produce more of its military equipment within the country, the US Ambassador to India Kenneth Juster and Rear Admiral Eileen Haskins Laubacher, Defence Attache at US Embassy in India called on the Indian Army chief General MM Naravane and discussed issues of mutual interest.

Earlier, on January 6, Juster, in his farewell address on the US-India partnership, said that the US recognizes India's desire to produce more of its military equipment within the country and it looks forward to growing partnership in this effort.
 
He further stated that the Indo-Pacific region needs stability, leadership, and a democratic model for development that does not threaten the sovereignty of other countries and a strong and democratic India is an important partner to promote peace and prosperity.
 
The Army Chief has been meeting with officials of different countries to enhance India's diplomacy. He traveled to South Korea for a three-day visit to enhance bilateral ties. The visit like other recent ones to foreign countries is aimed at enhancing military diplomacy.
 
In December, the Army chief visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia from 9 to 14 December as part of India’s military diplomacy in the neighborhood. This was the first visit by an Indian Army Chief to these two countries.
 
Prior to this, the Army Chief had visited Nepal and also accompanied Foreign Secretary Harsh Shringla to Myanmar.
