Partial reopening of schools in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, Sept 22 : Chandigarh schools allow students from Class 9 to 12 to start going to schools on voluntary basis, in case of guidance needed from teachers. Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a statement allowing States and UT's to permit 50% of the teaching and non teaching staff to be called to schools for online teaching and related works.

The Health Ministry had issued safety standard opening procedures in the first week of September stating “Government is following a phase-wise unlocking of activities. In the coming days, partial resumption of activities in schools for students of classes 9th to 12th on a voluntary basis, for taking guidance from their teachers will also be involved in this process. This would be allowed from September 21, 2020.”

The students are strictly asked to come to school only with a written permission granted by the parents. Social distancing etiquette and sanitation norms will be strictly followed in the schools. Physical distance of 6 feet, use of face masks, frequent hand washing with soap and use of alcohol based sanitizers will be mandatory. Sanitization of all school buildings has been made mandatory before reopening of the schools.

After inspection of preparations of schools on the first day of reopening conducted by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, it has been observed that the schools are maintaining the prescribed measures of Sanitization of the school building, 50 % attendance of staff, thermal scanning of staff and students at the entry gate, availability of sanitizers in premises, social distancing at the entry gate, schedule for students to visit schools, display of SOP guidelines, sitting arrangements for students, hygienic condition of washrooms, use of mask by staff and students and written consent of parents to tackle with situation.

The partial reopening of schools will exclude the schools located in the containment zones. The schools have been reopened since yesterday and presence of 950 students on the very first day in government schools has been encouraging for the process of reopening.
