The CBI made a request to AIIMS Forensic Department headed by Dr. Gupta in its letter, "The necessary medical papers, post-mortem reports, viscera reports will be provided at the earliest. It is, therefore, requested that a medical board of doctors at the AIIMS, New Delhi may please be constituted and deputed for visiting the place of occurrence at Mumbai at the earliest." CBI will provide necessary medical records to the forensic team for their analysis based on which the team will analyse the injury pattern in relation to the medical findings in the case.

A medical board of forensic experts has been constituted by AIIMS under the chairmanship of Dr. Sudhir Gupta to study the case and submit its findings to the Investigating agency. Dr. Sudhir Gupta said, "CBI is collecting all the reports related to SSR case and they will submit to us very soon. We will analyze the injury pattern on the body, correlate with circumstantial evidence. We will also examine other trace evidence preserved at the time of autopsy to differentiate between hanging and murder allegations."

"Based on the reports, forensic experts here will investigate the cause of death due to hanging or ligature strangulation as it has a very thin line of difference. All these things we have to look into before reaching any conclusion," said Dr. Gupta said. Moreover, Dr. Gupta and his team have presented their medico-legal opinion in many high profile cases like Sheena Bora's case and Sunanda Pushkar case.

The move comes days after the Supreme Court approved the CBI investigation recommended by the Bihar government to probe the death of the actor. CBI has also questioned a few key witnesses and also collected the case diary from the Mumbai Police to begin their examination. The collected documents included Sushant's five diaries laptop, three mobile phones, recorded statements of the people related to the actor, the clothes he was wearing that day, the cloth with which he allegedly hung himself, etc.
