Srinagar, Aug 17: High-speed mobile data services in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) have been restored on a trial basis in Ganderbal and Udhampur districts - one each in Kashmir and Jammu divisions, from Sunday evening for post-paid sim cardholders.
According to the order issued by the J&K Home Department, the trial period which began at 9 pm today will stay in force till the 8th of September, unless it is modified earlier. In other districts of the Union Territory shall continue to be restricted to 2G internet speed only.
"The high-speed mobile data services in the districts of Ganderbal (Kashmir) and Udhampur (Jammu division) shall be restored forthwith, on a trial basis, while in rest of the districts, the internet speed shall continue to be restricted to 2G only," an order issued by the Jammu and Kashmir Home Department read.
Earlier, a plea seeking contempt proceedings against Union Home Secretary and Chief Secretary of J&K in the Supreme Court for allegedly not complying with its earlier order on reviewing restoration of 4g internet here in the UT.
The central government, during the hearing, submitted that the Committee set-up to review the restoration of 4G internet services in Jammu and Kashmir is considering to allow the same in one district each of J&K divisions on a trial basis.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration had sought time to take instructions on the restoration of high-speed data services, saying a new Lt Governor has been appointed in the Union Territory. Manoj Sinha was appointed the L-G of Jammu and Kashmir after G C Murmu suddenly resigned from the post on August 5.
