Bilaspur, Aug 17: In a very challenging rescue mission, the Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel on Monday airlifted a man, who was stranded at Khutaghat dam in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district due to the heavy flow of water. The IAF had deployed an MI-17 helicopter to airlift the man in the dramatic rescue mission.

A video showing an IAF chopper airlifting the man from amidst the torrential flow of Khutaghat dam water has been shared on Twitter. According to the Bilaspur police officials, the stranded man sat on a rock holding on to a tree. The state officials tried to rescue him on Sunday night, however, they could not get him out, according to the Bilaspur police.
 
 
 
Inspector-General of Police, Bilaspur range, Dipanshu Kabra also shared several videos on Twitter. According to him, the man, identified as 34-year-old Jitendra Kumar Kashyap, "jumped in the wastewater weir of Khutaghat near Bilaspur but could not get out" as the flow of the water was heavy.
 
 
He said teams of Bilaspur police, State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), NTPC, and SECL tried to rescue him throughout the night but despite several attempts, the man could not be rescued. He added that the man continued sitting on the stone catching a tree while heavy water flow and bad weather made rescue nearly impossible for police.
 
 
It was then the IAF was requested to help in the rescue operation, Dipanshu Kabra said. The IAF was then requested to carry out a rescue operation, informed Inspector General (IG) Bilaspur Range Dipanshu Kabra, jointly carried out by the IAF and the state police department. Inspector General informed that he was safe and soon after the rescue operation, the man was taken to Ramkrishna CARE Hospitals, Raipur.
