Bhopal, June 17: Speaking at the online lecture series ‘Kulpati Samvad’ organized by Makhanlal Chaturvedi University (MCU) Prof Kuldip Chand Agnihotri, Vice-Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh Central University advised the foreign language media to change its outlook on J & K.

mcu_1  H x W: 0Prof. Agnihotri who is expert on J & K said that the media must be careful and cautious while using proper words in reporting on J & K. He said while the local media reports the ground reality, the foreign media deliberately twist the facts and report colored news conveying a different meaning. While one media report about the death of five terrorists, another media twist it as ‘five people dead’.

This selection and use of words and the hidden agenda behind it should be understood properly, he said explaining that when our soldiers die, we must write that they are martyred.

Prof Agnihotri said that for the last some years the foreign media is presenting a different narrative regarding J & K. The vernacular and English language media are speaking in different tongues on J & K issues. They deliberately tried to create confusion on J & K issues and presented a lopsided narrative.

He emphatically said that with the signatures of Maharaja Hari Singh on the Instrument of Accession, the princely state of J & K was merged with the Indian Union and this merger was without any condition. However, Sheikh Abdullah had launched an agitation against Maharaja Hari Singh which was supported by those Muslims whose ancestors came as invaders.

Commenting on abrogation of Article 370 and 35A, Prof Agnihotri said that with its removal an imaginary barrier was broken. This will bring a change in the voice of J & K. He said that there are five major parts of J & K viz. Jammu, Kashmir Valley, Ladakh, Gilgit, and Baltistan but normally reference is made to only three parts. The remaining two are illegally occupied by Pakistan and they are suffering from the injustice by the Pakistan government.

He said that the foreign media narrative on J & K was aimed at breaking India. Kashmiri newspapers always supported terrorism because they were receiving huge money from outside and also advertisements from the government but they did not represent the common citizens of Jammu and Kashmir.
