Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat’s address to the nation on April 26 was very meaningful in the sense that it has all the capacity to infuse cohesiveness, unity, integrity, peace, and wellbeing amongst ‘We the People of India'. His address thus created the much-needed positivism in the prevailing situation dominated by the negativity associated with coronavirus pandemic.

Bhagwat’s address was important and timely as the nation is passing through with numerous eventualities that are affecting the peace, cohesion, unity, and integrity of the nation.

He exhorted people for maintaining peace and cohesion promoting nationalism. He warned those elements who are targeting Indian Muslims resulting in unrest amongst the Muslim community along with Muslim nations around the world. He pleaded the principle of equality discarding the discriminatory approach doing otherwise shall be injurious to the national interest.

He said that Muslims must not have a sense of fear as all citizens have equal rights and equal opportunities irrespective of their caste, color, creed, and place of birth. All 130 crore Indians are our own people, he said emphasizing that this is not a time for creating conflict and tension targeting any particular community, especially Muslims, as such an approach shall weaken the nation giving opportunity for others to criticize us.

He pointed out the prevailing matter with regard to ‘Tabligh Jamaat’ pointing out that the entire community should not be blamed for the wrongs done by some people. In any organization a few may be of bad conduct, their misdeed can be criticized from reform point of view. Religion and culture of any particular community must not be criticized ruthlessly as such acts disappoint and hurt that community unnecessarily.

Those Indians who are serving in foreign countries especially Muslim countries they must know their limits also. They must know it that their critical approach to Islam and Muslims can be counterproductive. It appears he was referring to the reaction of fifty-seven Muslim countries with regard to treatment with Muslims by Hindus in India.

He observed that the responsibility of good governance is on the shoulder of the government and people must co-operate. He exhorted Indian Muslims not to have a sense of fear and apprehension. He accepted the reality of ‘diversities’ wherein there is a presumption that different religions, cultures, customs, and moorings co-exists. He further said all inhabitants of India are Indians. They must develop mutuality with respect and dignity. Only united India can face the challenges of the contemporary world.

He acknowledged the challenges created by the Corona Virus in India and the rest of the world. We must devote our capacities to remedy from this ugly situation. He lauded the efforts of the Prime Minister in this direction. He is of the view that any individual or any organization or any country must not be criticized unnecessarily. Lockdown and Social distancing must be observed religiously to uproot Coronavirus.

Mohan Bhagwatji is a tall personality. In the prevailing adverse situation, his address to the nation is meaningful as it has the capacity to infuse cohesiveness, unity, integrity, peace, and wellbeing amongst ‘we people’ of India.
