UP cops snap NSA against those who pelted stones at medical teams

Moradabad, Apr 17: Taking serious cognizance of the attack on a medical team in Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath government decided to invoke NSA against those arrested for pelting stones at the medical team members.

So far, the UP police have arrested 25 persons including 13 women for pelting stones at the doctors and paramedical staff in Moradabad. According to a television channel report, the Uttar Pradesh government also snapped the Epidemic Diseases Act along with NSA. The cops are also searching for more persons reportedly involved in attacking the medical team as preliminary reports put the number of attackers around over 100.

The visuals of the mob attacking medical teams had gone viral on social media on Wednesday showing how people from their rooftops were targeting medical ambulances and staff with stones. Most of these were Muslims, it was seen.

The incident happened at the Haji Neb Masjid area in Moradabad famous for its metal works when a team of some doctors and paramedical staff approached the areas for taking two suspected coronavirus patients from the area. The mob gathered at their rooftops started pelting stones and bricks at the ambulance and the doctors. Some stones were also targeted at the police van that came to rescue these health workers. The health officials said that thousands of people took to streets to attack them.

Incidents of the attack on medical and health workers in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak are not new. Such incidents have also happened at Panchkula in Haryana where four youth were arrested for attacking AASA workers and Anganwadi staff who were conducting the survey in the colony on April 8. According to reports, a mob of nine miscreants attacked a police party and AASHA workers at Indira Colony in Panchkula to prevent them from conducting the survey.

Another incident took place in Indore in Madhya Pradesh where a violent mob attacked the health workers and threw stones at them from nearby rooftops in the Tat Patti Bakhal area in Indore. The medical team had gone there to get the suspected COVID-19 affected patient.
