Cyclone Burevi: PM Modi speaks to CMs of Tamil Nadu & Kerala, assures Centre's support

New Delhi, December 03: As Cyclone Burevi expected to cross southern India during December 3, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured all possible support from the Centre during the telephonic conversation with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi Karuppa Palaniswami.

"Spoke to Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan on the conditions prevailing due to cyclonic storm Burevi in the state. Assured all possible support from the Centre to help Kerala. Praying for the safety and well-being of those staying in the affected areas," PM Modi tweeted.

Cyclonic Storm 'Burevi' is most likely to emerge into the Gulf of Mannar in the morning of December 3, and cross south Tamil Nadu between Kanyakumari and Pamban on the early morning of December 4, said India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday morning. Red alerts have been issued to southern districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry as well.
 
Heavy to very heavy rain is predicted at many places in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu today, with the possibility of extremely very heavy rain at isolated places. Met Department has said the cyclone will gain the wind speed of 70-80 km per hour, gusting to 90 km per hour, while having the landfall. Its impact over the southern coastal districts of Tamil Nadu is expected to commence this morning in Ramanathapuram, and it is set to gradually spread up to the Kanyakumari district.
 
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed "27 self-contained teams in the coastal area of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Kerala. Of the 27 teams, 17 teams of NDRF are being deployed at the coastal regions of Tamil Nadu i.e. Kanyakumari, Tuticorin, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli, Nagapattinam, Mayiladurai, Cuddalore, Madurai, and Chennai. One team has been deployed in Puducherry, while 8 teams have been deployed at the coastal districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Alapuzha, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Kottayam, and Ernakulam. The Air Force and the Navy are also ready for rescue and relief operations.
