Bengaluru, December 25: Taking a U-turn from his earlier decision, the Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa withdrew the night curfew saying "there is no need for it" . This decision has come just a day after Karnataka govt imposed it in view of muted COVID 19.
While making the announcement, Yediyurappa said that he decided to withdraw the curfew order after a meeting with ministers and officials.
"Based on experts’ opinion, it was decided to impose a night curfew aimed at curbing the spread of the new Covid-19 strain detected in Britain and other countries. However, in the wake of public opinion that a night curfew is not necessary, it has been decided to withdraw it after discussions with Cabinet colleagues and senior officials," the chief minister said in his statement.
The statement added, "The public should undertake self-regulation (quarantine), use masks, social distance, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow government guidelines on the control of COVID-19."
Karnataka imposed a night curfew in view of the concerns over a new mutation of coronavirus. The curfew was supposed to continue till January 2.
Maharashtra has also declared a night curfew in municipal corporation areas as a precautionary step amid growing concerns over a new coronavirus variant spreading in Britain. It should be noted that, central government has also banned flights from the UK for a period of time.
