New Delhi, Dec 21: On the backdrop of the outbreak of the newly mutated virus in England, the Government of India has decided that all flights originating from the UK to India will be suspended till 31st December 2020. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has said that the suspension will start from midnight at 23.59 hrs, Dec 22.
The Ministry has issued a statement in this regard that as a measure of abundant precaution, passengers arriving from the UK in all transit flights (flights that have taken off or flights which are reaching India before 22nd Dec at 23.59 hrs) should be subject to mandatory RT-PCR test on arrival at the airports concerned.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has imposed tighter coronavirus curbs in Britain and largely reversed plans to ease restrictions over Christmas. The changes were brought in action due to the detection of a new and more infectious strain of the Corona virus. The number of cases in England has soared in the last two weeks because of a variant of the virus that scientists said is up to 70% more transmissible.
The British Prime Minister tore up plans to allow three households to mix indoors for five days over the festive period and said London and southeast England would now be placed in a new Tier 4 level.
People in Tier 4 will be required to stay at home except for essential reasons. The new rules will come into effect from the night of Dec 21.
