Islamabad, Dec 2: Opposition parties of Pakistan have mounted pressure on PM Imran Khan govt to resign from their office. Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), which was formed last month by nine major opposition parties is organizing nationwide agitations against the government.
Pakistan is a country suffering double digit inflation and negative economic growth. This fact has already created an anti-Imran Khan environment among the Pakistani awaam. Under Imran Khan, Pakistan has experienced rising censorship of the media and a crackdown on dissent, critics and opposition on the government's failure to tackle problems.
However, the campaign led by the opposition against him has triggered discontent over PM Imran Khan's credibility of handling the economy. This discontent has not only emerged after the pandemic but it also prevailed and was tanking before the pandemic struck.
Maryam Nawaz had shared the platform with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, during the PDM rally that took place on Nov 29. Zardari's Pakistan People’s Party governs the southern city of Karachi. During the rally she said that the Pakistani farmers have hunger in their homes and the youth is disappointed and seeked for an explanation from the Pakistani PM.
Pakistan's Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also virtually addressed a prior rally from London, when he accused the Pakistani Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa of rigging the 2018 elections and orchestrating Sharif's ouster in 2017, saying the corruption charges brought against him were concocted.
Regarding the same accusitions, when the Pakistani army who claims to not interfere in the state's political affairs and has remained silent, PM Imran Khan has stood forward to defend the military and denied that the army helped him win. He has also threatened a fresh crackdown on opposition leaders.
