New Delhi, Dec 10: Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has reiterated government's stand that Minimum Support Price will continue and APMC mandis will not be scrapped. He said, no one can take away the land of the farmer for any reason and buyers cannot make any changes in the farmer's land.
The minister said that contractors cannot terminate the contract without full payment. He informed about the farm laws that under the laws farmers can fix the prices of the produce before they grow the crop and buyers will have to pay on time or else they will have to face legal action.
Narendra Singh Tomar has said that the government wanted to liberate the farmers of the shackles of the Mandi so that they could sell their produce anywhere, to anyone, at their own price, outside the purview of the Mandi. He said, government expressed that it is ready for open-minded discussions on provisions they have objections against.
The minister reassured that the land of farmers will not be occupied by industrialists. He pointed out that contract farming has been going on for long in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Haryana, Punjab, Karnataka but there has never been such experience.
The government has already made provisions that agreement under these laws will only be between processors and farmers' produce and there is no provision for any lease or agreement over farmers' land.
