3 militants shot dead, 3 security personnel martyred in J&K's Machil encounter

Kupwara (Jammu & Kashmir), Nov 9: In a major operation by Indian Army and Border Security Force (BSF), security forces eliminated three terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Machil sector on Sunday, while two Indian soldiers were injured and three lost their lives in the line of action.

"At about 1.00 am, BSF patrol noticed suspicious movement near the Anti Infiltration Obstacle System (AIOS) (LoC Fence), about 3.5 kilometres from the LoC. A firefight ensued in which one terrorist was killed. Firefight stopped at 4 am. Contact was re-established at 10.20 am when the heavy fire was drawn by own search parties approximately 1.5 kilometres from the LoC. In the ensuing firefight two more terrorists were killed," said an official release.
 
 
The release further said that a total of three troops were killed in action during the operation and two more are injured. "Injured soldiers have been evacuated," it added.
 
Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha paid tributes to the security personnel who died in the line of duty. "Heartfelt tributes to the Security personnel who attained martyrdom during an encounter with terrorists in the Machil sector of Kupwara district. The Nation will always remain indebted to brave hearts who have laid down their lives for providing a safe and secure environment to our people. My deepest condolences to the families of the martyrs and pray for eternal peace to the departed souls."
 
 
Army has also seized two AKs rifles with two magazines and 60 rounds of bullets, one pistol with two magazines and 29 rounds of bullets, one radio set, Rs 50,000 Indian currency and administrative stores during a joint operation with BSF against terrorists in Machil sector of Kupwara district.

In the intervening night of November 7-8, an unidentified terrorist was neutralised as the Army foiled an infiltration bid along Line of Control (LoC), defence spokesperson said on Sunday.
