Chennai, Nov 27: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has busted a Sri Lankan boat with heroin, weapons and six crew on board at about 10 Nautical Miles off Kanyakumari. The ICG has informed that they were carrying out an extensive search after receiving credible information on an illegal consignment of narcotic drugs being smuggled into India through sea.
The ICG acted upon the vital inputs provided by the intelligence and deployed five ships and two aircraft to carry out a sea-air search operation since Nov 17. Items seized from the arrest include 99 packets of Heroin, 20 boxes of synthetic drugs, five 9 MM Pistols and a satellite phone set. According to the ICG, the drugs and weapons were hidden in an unapproachable location in the boat.
During the interrogation carried out after the arrest, the crew members revealed that the drugs were transferred onto Sri Lankan vessel 'Shenaya Duwa' on the high seas by a Pakistani Dhow from Karachi. Further, the ICG has planned for a joint interrogation as well in Tuticorin.
Narco-terrorism is considered as an integral component of Pakistan’s state-sponsored cross-border terrorism, which initiates fund to conduct asymmetric warfare against its neighbours, mainly India. Apart from directly intruding into India, through the Indo-Pak border, they also attempt to breach Indian security through indirect means of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
However, conscious surveillance along all the possible gateways of Pakistani narcotics into India initiates detention of considerable number of such plans.
