Around 900 Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) plants are to be established, under the agreement. Earlier, the Government of India signed an agreement for 600 plants. Together, around 1,500 plants are under execution currently. GoI plans to build 5,000 CBG plants by 2023-34. The signed agreement will bring in Rs 30,000 Crores of investment to set up 900 plants. Further, in order to set up 5000 plants, a total investment of Rs 2 lakh crores is anticipated.

The SATAT initiative, launched in 2018, aims to set up compressed Bio-gas production plants. The initiative will prove beneficial in order to generate power for the automobile sector, and can further be used to reduce the import of fuels by Rs 1 lakh crores. The CBG plants are conditioned to be set up through independent entrepreneurs, under SATAT.

The initiative will also provide additional income source for farmers, which will eventually channel the way to achieve India's goal of doubling farmers' income by 2022 and potentially boost rural economy. On the environmental aspect, it will help to reduce carbon emissions. The most important element of the initiative is that CBGs will act as a buffer against oil and gas price fluctuations.
