Announcing the news, Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, said the seats may be allocated for the selection and nomination of candidates from among wards of “Covid warriors”, who lost their life due to Covid or died accidentally on account of Covid-related duty. “

These corona warriors include all public health care providers including doctors, nurses, outsourced staff requisitioned by states, a volunteer who comes in direct contact with coronavirus patients and are exposed to a maximum risk of contracting the viral infection. Also includes those working in Central or state AIIMS and Institutes of National Importance.

The state and union territory (UT) government will certify the eligibility for this category.

This will honor the solemn sacrifice of all Covid warriors who served with selfless dedication,” he stated, adding that," This move reflects the Modi government's commitment to the Corona warriors."

The selection will be made by the Medical Council Committee (MCC) through an online application based on rank obtained in the NEET-2020 conducted by the National Testing Agency.
