Mumbai, Nov 17 : First solar power-enabled Textile Mill in Asia to come up soon in Maharashtra's Parbhani district. The project is expected to provide employment to considerable number of women in the region.
The Jai Bhawani women's cooperative textile mill will prove to be the first in Asia to operate on solar power. The textile mill in Parbhani will process cotton to cloth. Dr. Sampriya Rahul Patil, Chairman of the textile mill is planning to produce the finest quality cotton, which will be procured from Parbhani itself.
Parbhani is the leading cotton producing district in Maharashtra. Being a cash crop, cotton production is seen as a profitable investment because of which majority of the farmers in the region prefer growing the crop. Further processing of the product through the processes of ginning, pressing, weaving and spinning of the cotton will be practiced in the mill.
The cost of the project is 100 crore rupees and once the mill starts functioning, it will certainly give momentum to the industrial sector in the district, added Dr. Patil.
