Washington, September 23: A day after the magnificent ‘Howdy Modi’ event, President Donald Trump met Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday on sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meeting. Pitching in for Kashmir issue with its old tactic of misleading information on the region, Imran Khan once again brought the matter before US President. Reiterating for the same, Donald Trump assured to mediate only if both parties agree to it.
This is the second meeting between Imran Khan and Donald Trump. The US president expressed hope that the India and Pakistan will come together and resolve issues. This is be the second meeting between the two leaders since July, where the US president offered to mediate on Kashmir dispute. Trump also held telephone talks with the leaders of Pakistan and India in August amid lockdown in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir.
Addressing the media in a joint session, Trump asserted that people in his position have treated Pakistan very badly. But he wouldn't say Pakistan has treated US too well either but maybe there was a reason. Playing safe, Trump said that the earlier leaders had no idea about Pakistan’s views but he trusted Imran Khan in bringing a change in the country.
Balancing a safe act, Donald Trump highlighted that his relations with both India and Pakistan has been great. Reiterating on the Kashmir issue, Trump said that if both nations bilaterally talk and resolve this issue, he offered to mediate once again. When asked about PM Modi citing Pakistan as haven of terrorism, US President Trump casually sidelined the topic by pointing out at Iran. Trump said, “I have really been pointing much more to Iran...Iran's really the no. 1 state of terror in the world.”
Speaking about Pakistan’s position on counter-terrorism, Trump added saying that he believes Imran Khan is working on it and has made great progress. The only solution is to work on counter-terrorism as boosting it will only lead to death, chaos and poverty which the country (Pakistan) is already dealing with it.
Later talking about the Kashmir issue and Imran Khan’s illusionary view on ‘human rights violation’ in the region, Trump said that he thinks India and Pakistan will unanimously work out and he wants it to be humane. “I want everyone to be treated well”, said Trump.
