Agartala, September 18: Together through thick and thin, India and Bangladesh have remained and maintained their close knitted relation impeccably. Keeping in view the pivotal role played by India in the Bangladesh Liberation War, the Bangladesh government proposed to set up a monument of the martyrs of 1971 in Tripura.
The monument will be in memory of the martyrs of 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. In a courtesy meet with the Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb a five member Bangladeshi delegation said that the Seikh Hasina Government is ready to take up necessary steps if Tripura Government offers land for the purpose. The meeting was held on Monday at the state Civil Secretariat in Agartala.
The delegation, headed by Bangladesh Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud, also discussed various issues including Agartala- Akhuara rail connectivity, waterways and border haats. In the meeting, Chief Minister Deb stressed on reducing excise duty by Bangladesh for exporting tea from Tripura. He also emphasized on speedy completion of works at Mongla and Chittagong ports and to resolve the land issues over proposed Land Custom Stations at Manughat and Muhurighat.
The Chief Minister also focused on destination- to- destination loading and unloading of goods-laden lorries coming from Bangladesh through Integrated Check Post. He also highlighted the steps taken by his government to end drugs menace. The Bangladesh delegation led by Dr Hasan are on a 2-day visit to the state in connection with 1st Bangladesh Film Festival held in Agartala.
