New Delhi, August 16: Bringing back and thinking of the memories of India’s one of the tallest leaders, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday paid tributes to former Prime Minister on his first death anniversary at his memorial, Sadaiv Atal, in New Delhi.
The BJP stalwart died last year on August 16 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences following a prolonged illness. PM Modi while paying tributes to the vetera n said, “His thoughts and words live on. We will always cherish his contribution to India’s development”.
Meanwhile, President Ram Nath Kovind, MHA Amit Shah, BJP national working president JP Nadda and other leaders of the party also paid tributes to Vajpayee at his memorial. The veteran’s daughter Namita Kaul Bhattacharya and granddaughter Niharika were amongst the family present at his death anniversary function.
Vajpayee, who led the National Democratic Alliance government from 1998-2004, was the first ever leader from the BJP to have become the nation's Prime Minister. He served as Prime Minister thrice, briefly in 1996, and then for two terms between 1998 and 2004.
