Mumbai, July 27: Amid heavy downpour and an intense spell of rains in Mumbai and around areas, seventeen inbound flights were diverted from the Mumbai airport on Friday as confirmed by the Airport authorities.
“Seventeen flights were diverted to nearby airports and four flights had to do `go-around' before they could land”, a spokesperson of the Mumbai airport said.
The Indian Meteorological Department had however affirmed the earlier day of intense heavy showers in the districts of Thane, Raigad and Mumbai. As the downpour revived the memories of the much greater monsoon fury the city had witnessed on July 26, 2005, there were delays of on average more than one hour in airport operations.
The IMD all the same yet today has estimated intermittent rain with heavy to very heavy falls at a few places in the city and suburbs, with temperature ranging from 31 degree maximum to 25 degree minimum.
