With four lives and 7 missing, Heavy rains wreak havoc in Kerala!

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul. 22: With the monsoon gaining strength, Four people have died and seven fishermen are missing, as heavy rains lashed Kerala for the second day under the influence of the southwest monsoon.
 
 
 
 
 
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) declared Red and Orange Alerts in Kerala till July 22, as heavy rains have led to a flood-like situation in several places.
 
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur districts, and predicted extremely heavy rainfall during the day on Monday. Central and southern districts are also expected to receive heavy rainfall over the next five days and are on orange alert.
 
As per the latest weather check, one or two heavy to very heavy spells will occur over Kerala.
 
 
 
 
The weatherman has also issued an orange alert in Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Malappuram till July 25. Shutters of Pambla, Peringalkuthu, Kallarkutty, Bhoothathankettu and Malankara dams in Idukki Districts are opened. The rains have caused a flood-like situation in many parts of the state.
 
Due to the flood-like situation, the state opened 5 dams and state also declared holiday for educational institutions in some districts. As per the official statement, the Shutters of Peringalkuthu, Pambla, Kallarkutty, Bhoothathankettu, and Malankara dams have been opened and the government plans to open shutters of Moozhiyar dam in Pathanamthitta.
 
The state has opened 10 relief camps in six districts— Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Thrissur, Kozhikode, and Kannur— to shift 835 people.
