Shopian, May 31: Acting strong towards its commitment on eliminating terrorists, the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have successfully neutralised three in an encounter. It was a nine hour long fierce gunfight in Dragad Sugan area of Shopian in South Kashmir region. Security sources said the post encounter sanitization and search operation is on.
The security forces informed that a joint team of army, J&K police and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on the basis of specific information about presence of at least three terrorists in the area.
Initially, one terrorist was killed and an army commando injured in the counter terror operation in the area. Later, after a lull in the exchange of gunfire, the fresh firing started between the holed up terrorists and the forces personnel leading to killing of two more terrorists. Arms and ammunition was also recovered from the encounter site.
It has been reported that three slain terrorists were from Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar e Toiba outfits. However, security officials said that the identity and group affiliation of the slain terrorists shall be undertaken after conclusion of the operation in the area.
The mobile internet services in Shopian and adjacent areas remained snapped as a precautionary measure.
