Helping hand for our brothers in crisis! India appoints 17 coordinators in Tripoli to help Indians leave Libya
New Delhi, Apr 24: Libyan ongoing crisis is increasing day by day. Indian trapped in Libya is increasing concerns for Indian Foreign bureaucracy. As the situation continues to worsen, Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday said, India has appointed 17 coordinators in Capital Tripoli to help Indian to leave Libya.
On official Twitter account of Sushma Swaraj, she tweeted, “Tripoli - We have appointed 17 Coordinators to help Indians leaving Libya. Indian Embassy is helping them with Exit Visa even in cases where their visa has expired. Presently, the airport is operational. Please avail of this opportunity”.
The efforts to evacuate all Indians rose in Tripoli on April 14, when Khalifa Hafter announced an attack on the Libyan Capital- Tripoli, to capture the region from UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA). Swaraj had earlier appealed to around 500 Indian living in Tripoli, to leave the war-ravaged country immediately.
India already removed entire contingent of peacekeeping forces comprising of 15 CRPF personnel on April 6 from Tripoli, this move was followed by US and Nepal.
200 people died and 913 wounded due to this crisis.
Now, Libya has been largely divided into two fractions ever since the death of its dictator Muammar Gaddafi. The LNA backed parliament controls East Libya and UN-backed GNA controls West Libya.
