New Delhi, April 19: When you point out a finger on a person, you should be well aware that the other fingers are pointed at you. A similar incident took place when the opposition voiced their concern of condemning code of conduct by Bharatiya Janata Party for releasing a biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The opposition called on the Election Commission and the release date was put at halt due to elections.
The Bharatiya Janata Party ((BJP) in the state of West Bengal had approached the Election Commission to review an alleged biopic on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee titled ‘Baghini: Bengal Tigress’. Taking action against the same, the Election Commission (EC) has sought a report from the West Bengal chief electoral officer on an alleged biopic on chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
The BJP had requested the EC to take similar steps as it had taken in the case of the biopic based on PM Narendra Modi. The BJP had approached the poll panel seeking a ban on the release of the movie till the election process is over.
The BJP has also asked the poll body to review the alleged biopic on the Trinamool Congress supremo. The biopic titled Baghini is slated to release on 3 May.
Earlier, the Election Commission had stalled the release of films which targeted any political parties or individuals. It had ordered that any biopic that intends or had the has the potential to disturb the level playing field during the elections should not be displayed through electronic media including cinematograph during the operation of the Model Code of Conduct.
Previously, a biopic on PM Modi, titled ‘PM Narendra Modi’ starring Vivek Oberoi was stalled by the EC ahead of its release on April 11, the day the first phase of the Lok Sabha polls had kicked off. Films based on former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister NT Rama Rao, titled ‘Lakshmi’s NTR’, and on current Telangana CM K Chandrashekhar Rao, 'Udyama Simham' also were stalled by the election body.
