Goa to contest 2 Lok Sabha 3 Assembly seats on May 19

Panaji, April 10: While the entire democracy seems to be busy in Lok Sabha polls, the state of Goa for the Panaji Assembly seat, will be stressing at hosting the bypolls along, in the wake of the death of former chief minister Manohar Parrikar. The said contest, for 2 Lok Sabha seats and 3 Assembly seats will take place on 19th of May, as confirmed by a senior poll officer yesterday.
 
 
Parrikar died on 17th of March following a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He headed a coalition government comprising the BJP, Goa Forward Party, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and Independents.
The bypoll would be held along with that of five other Assembly seats in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The votes however would be counted on 23rd May the official said. “The poll notification for Panaji Assembly constituency would be issued on 22nd April while the last date for filing nominations will be on 29th of April”, he added.
The nominations would be scrutinised on 30th April and that the last date for withdrawing them would be 2nd of May 2, he said. Incidentally, it is supposed to be the second bypoll for Panaji Assembly seat since state polls in 2017. The first one was in August that year after BJP MLA Siddharth Kunkolienkar resigned from the House to allow Parrikar, then Defence Minister, to become an MLA.
