Chennai, Mar 19: India is in the election mood. Everywhere and everyone is promising something. The biggest festival of democracy brings some old skeletons out of the closet. DMK and Congress in Tamil Nadu also come up with the new manifesto for general elections 2019 with the promise to release killers of Rajiv Gandhi.
In a controversial move, DMK, which is in alliance with Congress in Tamil Nadu, has promised in its manifesto to make efforts for the release all seven killers of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Today, The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party headed by M K Stalin, launched its election manifesto for 2019 Lok Sabha election. DMK who is an alliance of Rahul Gandhi’s Congress in Tamil Nadu, assured in its manifesto to make efforts for the release of all 7 killers of former PM Rajiv Gandhi, the Father of Rahul Gandhi.
Some media reports appreciated this manifesto as a “state-centric” but in reality, this manifesto only reflects the DMK’s need to tie up with old friend Congress.
In the past as well, DMK has approached the state government as well as the Governor on several occasions, requesting the release of the convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. The case pertains to the killing of the former PM Rajiv Gandhi who was killed in a suicide bomb attack on May 21, 1991, in Sriperumbadur in Chennai.
The seven convicts in the case have been incarcerated for nearly three decades. In its manifesto, the party has also promised to provide compensation to the victims of demonetization.
Another promise made by DMK, It has also sworn to ensure the linking of South India Rivers and has promised to help provide citizenship to the refugees from Sri Lanka.
