Guwahati, December 9: With the ongoing ruckus in the country pertaining to Citizenship Amendment Bill, the North eastern region in particular is highly affected by it. In order to maintain peace and order, the Assam Police has launched WhatsApp helpline number (9132699735) for complaints related to hate or fake messages related to the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
There has been various protests in the state of Assam and various organisations, students’ bodies of Assam have come out across the state claiming that it is an unconstitutional and anti-national Bill. The Assam Police in a tweet posted, “Some mischievous elements are attempting to spread hate and fake messages regarding the proposed Bill. We request all stakeholders of society not to believe in the disinformation being spread by such elements. Together, we must ensure that peace & harmony in the State is not disturbed,” Assam Police tweeted.
Assam Police asked citizens to report about hate or fake messages through social media handles (Facebook/Twitter) and WhatsApp helpline number. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Union cabinet on December 4th, 2019 passed the Bill and the government is all set to pass the bill in the ongoing winter session of the parliament.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah tabled the Bill in the Lok Sabha on Monday in the Lower House. The All Moran Students’ Union has called for a 48-hour bandh beginning on December 9th, 2019 at 5 am demanding the scrapping of the Bill. Meanwhile, security has been beefed up across the state. The Dibrugarh district administration cancelled a concert by Zubeen Garg because of security reasons in view of protests against Bill.
