If the Shivsena government assumes itself to be strong and claims that it alone has been thinking of farmer's problems years long, it should have valid determination to please the Centre for funds if needed. Why do they need BJP's Devendra Fadnavis to go talk to Modi for financial aid in the state? Sena needs to reach Adulthood and take up actual responsibilities of Maharashtra!
Covertly learning the administrative lessons from its former ally BJP but taking a very small step to address the issue of farmers in Maharashtra, Shivsena on Saturday declared loan waiver of up to Rs 2 lakh for farmers. Blatantly hitting out at the BJP, for seeking to write off debts fully, the Thackrey led government today alleged why it did not address the issue when it was in power.
In a veiled attack on also the BJP-led central government, the Shiv Sena, in its party mouthpiece 'Saamana', noted that the Thackeray government took the decision of farm loan waiver at a time when the country is burning over the issue of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. Without naming direcly but targeting the BJP though, it overtly said that one can provoke people by playing politics of sentiments, but one needs courage to take a decision in the interest of farmers.
The Maharashtra government on Saturday announced a loan waiver of up to Rs two lakh for farmers, with a cut off date of September 30, 2019. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray made the announcement in the Legislative Assembly on the last day of the state legislature's winter session in Nagpur.
Though this being the first step of the new government towards writing off farmers' debts, it seems disadvantageous as the farmers and the agricuturalists expected complete loan waiver. Standing by the farmers who suffered a lot because of the unseasonal rains this year, the BJP staged a walkout on Saturday, seeking full loan waiver.
It said the demand for full farm loan waiver was made by Sena president Thackeray himself during the tenure of the previous Devendra Fadnavis-led government. "You are not appreciating the government's decision to write off farmers' loans of upto Rs two lakh, but questioning whether full loan waiver has been extended. You were in power in Maharashtra for five years. Why did not you give it then? You should tell this first", Shivsena flagrantly cornered BJP, probably having no answer to the actual farmers's problem.
"The issues of loan waiver for farmers and providing meal at Rs 10 are crucial for the poor. But the BJP missed those issues. The BJP doesn't have to sulk if farmers feel joyous (after announcement of loan waiver). Be a part of farmers' joy," the Marathi publication alleged.
Further taking the unnecessary jibe at the Modi-led Central government, Sena affirmed, "It is a question whether the Centre will fulfil the expectation of giving financial aid to Maharashtra, the economy of which is in a precarious state. Fadnavis should pursue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue".
If the Shivsena government assumes itself to be strong and claims that it thinks of only farmer's problems day long, it should have valid determination to please the Centre for funds if needed. Why do they need BJP's Deendra Fadnavis to go talk to Modi for financial aid in the state?
The three wheeled government in the State seems to have completely lost it's sensibility, so much so that they are breaking the ice to make farmer's loan waiver issue a political gimmick by blaming the previous governments. The Sena-led government needs to understand that there absolutely can be no comparison of its one, small, disadvantageous decision towards farmers with that of the total work done by the earlier BJP led government favouring farmers in state. Sena needs to reach Adulthood and take up actual responsibilities of Maharashtra!
