Mumbai, December 02: The only thing when Shiv Sena's Uddhav Thackrey took oath as Maharashtra CM was development that was feared off. And here it is! Waking up on the fourth day as state CM, Thackrey on Monday affirmed to review of all on-going development projects in the state, including the Mumbai- Ahmedabad bullet train.
This is after the bullet train project has faced stiff opposition from farmers and tribals whose lands are to be acquired. "This government is of the common man. Like you asked now, yes, we will review the bullet train. Have I stayed the bullet train project like Aarey car shed? No, I haven't," he said while addressing a forum.
"The state government will also come out with a white paper on the financial condition of the state", Thackeray said adding that the state government, which has a debt of nearly Rs five lakh crore, is firm on giving unconditional loan waivers to farmers.
The earlier BJP Government led by Devendra Fadnavis had began to built a wide infrastructure metro network and expected to begin trial runs for 11 metro lines in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region by the end of 2024. Also it ensured the last mile connectivity offering good alternative connectivity to unchartered places.
Thackrey meanwhile also announced a stay to construction of metro carshed in the city's green lung Aarey Colony, where strong protests had erupted last month against cutting of trees for the work. He, however, clarified that he had not stayed the work of the Mumbai metro rail project itself.
The Shiv Sena president, who was accompanied by his son and MLA Aaditya, also noted that he is the first chief minister of Maharashtra who was born in Mumbai, and added that he is working on plans to ensure development of the city. "The priorities of the previous BJP-led government in the state in which his party was a constituent were not misplaced", Thackrey said blatantly and added that there would be no vendetta politics.
The announcements came a day after the Thackeray-led Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government forged by the Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress more than a month after the election results were out won the trust vote in the state Assembly with the support of 169 legislators in the 288-member House.
