New Delhi, October 07: "Country will shift to Bharat Stage Six vehicular emission norms from BS IV by April 2020", said Forest minister Prakash Javadekar today while addressing a forum at New Delhi, further adding that BS6-compliant vehicles would be coming in Delhi by April 2020.
Javadekar further said that the government had taken several steps for better air quality including formation of the peripheral expressway to reduce Delhi-NCR pollution. "The pollution is being checked due to the new Motor vehicles Act", he added.
Terming green fire crackers, a historic step, the minister also informed that government has given eighteen thousand machines to farmers in Punjab and Haryana worth 1150 crore rupees to tackle crop stubble.
"Air pollution problem in Delhi was not recognised till 2014. In 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Air Quality Index. 113 AQI monitoring stations are present in Delhi-NCR and 29 more are to be installed soon", he affirmed.
