New Delhi, October 03: "The trade between US and India is robust, with imports from US to India growing by nearly 30% and exports from India to US growing by nearly 20% in the last one year", claimed Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal while addressing the delegates at World Economic Forum's India Economic Summit in the national capital today.

He affirmed that the relations between India and the United States, at the leaders level and at the people to people level were better than ever before. "India is the largest democracy in the world, offering the 4 important Ds abide, being Demographic dividend, Democracy, Demand for people aspiring for a better quality of life and Decisive leadership", he added.
Trade has to consider the past, the present, the future, the political dynamics, local issues, long term issues, bilateral and multilateral commitments. "It’s a very complex story and in that complexity, India and USA are having an absolutely wonderful engagement", Goyal said.
Meanwhile in the United States, EAM S Jaishankar having bilateral talks with the US counterpart yesterday had opined that trade deals were not simple arithmetic but much more complicated as they involve a number of variables. He also exuded confidence that India and US would find a fix to their trade disputes with intense engagement going on between the two countries.

Trade tensions between India and the US have been rising with President Donald Trump complaining that tariffs imposed by New Delhi on American products were no longer acceptable. He, championing his 'America First' policy, has been a vocal critic of India for levying tremendously high duties on US products, naming India as a tariff king.
