Actor Prakash Raj to contest Lok Sabha polls

Bengaluru, Jan 2: After Kamal Haasan and Pawan Kalyan, the National Award-winning actor Prakash Raj on Tuesday announced his political entry ahead of the 2019 general election. The ace actor took to Twitter and announced his decision of contesting Lok Sabha elections.

"Happy New Year to everyone. A new beginning... more responsibility.. with your support I will be contesting in the coming parliament elections as an independent candidate. Raj posted.

Known for his candid opinions, the multi-lingual actor is considered to be a bitter critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi led BJP government. The veteran actor criticized Modi keeping mum on the murder of senior journalist Gauri Lankesh.

A prominent face in southern language, Prakash Raj hails from Bengaluru and well versed with Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and starred in a number of films down south. In Hindi, he shot to fame with Director Rohit Shetty’s cop drama ‘Singham’ where he essayed the role of antagonist Jaykant Chikre.

During Telangana assembly, Raj openly backed K. Chandrashekar Rao’s TRS. He was instrumental in getting KCR’s support for H D Dewe Gauda’s JD(S) in Karnataka assembly polls last year.
