Varanasi, Mar 20: When politicians like Asaduddin Owaisi and his All India MIM are organising marches by Muslim women in support of triple talaq practice in various parts of the country, hundreds of Muslim women took to street in Varanasi denouncing the inhuman practice of triple talaq and demanded that the government bring legislation to end this practice that insults the womanhood.

The march was organised by Muslim Mahila Foundation (MMF) headed by Nazneen Ansari. The women gathered under the banner of the MMF burnt the effigy of Muslim Personal Law Board for supporting the 'triple talaq' practice and vowed to continue their agitation.

The march began from MMF office situated in Varunanagar in Varanasi with the participating women shouting slogans like “We want freedom from Triple Talaq”. They appealed to all to unite against this evil and inhuman practice.

Addressing the meeting MMF President Nazneen Ansari alleged that the AIMPLB move was an offence and it was encouraging Muslims for triple talaq. Terming this motive as cruelty against women and children of the community she felt that it was unfortunate that he bill on triple talaq could not be passed in the Rajya Sabha. She alleged that the AMPLB wanted Muslim women to live like slaves and the women opposing triple talaq are being threatened by the AIMPLB and extremists.

She said that the bill against triple talaq should be passed as early as possible so that the women can be emancipated from this outdated practice. She said that their struggle against the triple talaq would continue in future also.

MMF National executive member Nazma Parveen said that their organisation struggled against the triple talaq by considering it a social evil and stood with its victims. She said that the women of the community were expecting AIMPLB to protect their interest but it was trying to promote the practice of triple talaq instead.

The MMF also demanded that the state government should lodge an FIR against the AIMPLB for promoting triple talaq despite the Supreme Court terming it unconstitutional in 2017.

Other speakers demanded that the government should ensure that the triple talaq bill is passed in Rajya Sabha as soon as possible. Qausar Jahan, Shahjahan Rukhsana, Rehana, Zarina, Bibi Ban, and Shama Parveen also addressed the gathering.
