Lakshadweep joins hand to incorporate UDAY scheme providing electricity to people

New Delhi, March 1: In order to supply efficient electricity to the people of Lakshadweep, the Unio Terroitory has joined hands with the UDAY scheme, which is meant for revival of debt stressed power distribution companies (discoms) in the country. The Memorandum of Understanding has been signed as an operational turnaround of the Union Territory’s Electricity Department.

The Union Territory will have an overall benefit of around Rs 8 crore that would provide ways of cheaper funds, reduction in AT&C losses, and intervention in energy efficiency.

The MoU has paved path for improving efficiency of the Electricity Department of Lakshadweep. Initiating mandatory distribution transformer metering, consumer indexing, consumer indexing and GIS mapping of losses and various other requirements will help eliminate the gap between cost of supply of power and realization.

Apart from this the Demand Side Intervention through the Uday scheme has given usage of energy-efficient LED bulbs, agricultural pumps, fans and AC and also provides industrial equipment through Perform, Achieve and Trade motto. This will ultimately help in reducing energy consumption in Union Territory of Lakshdweep. While efforts will be made by the Electricity Department of the Union Territory to improve their efficiency in working and reducing the cost of supply of power to the people of the territory.

Joining hands with the Government of India over incorporating UDAY scheme, the Union Territory of Lakshadweep has forwarded their hands toward development and give better position to the people of the area by getting electricity.
