Divinity becomes safer; WB govt gives insurance of 5 lakh to each visiting Gangasagar Mela

Kolkata, December 9: Pilgrims don’t worry your divine journey now becomes secure as West Bengal government has declared Rs 5 lakhs insurance to each who visit Gangasagar Mela 2018. This was declared at a meeting of state government’s official’s on Friday.This scheme of giving insurance to the visitors is introduced for the first time.

Besides making all arrangements for safety and security of people visiting Ganga Sagar to take the holy dip at the confluence of River Ganges and Bay of Bengal, the state government decision to bring them under an insurance scheme will make the pilgrims more safe and secure.

"We have taken a decision of providing an insurance coverage of Rs 5 lakh to the visitors of this year’s Gangasagar Mela scheduled next month. Every single visitor to the Mela will be covered," CM Mamta Banerjee said.

Along with this Indian Navy has given its hands to ensure the event of Gangasagar mela to be safer by providing security to it. The Indian Navy will place three of its ships in the vicinity of Sagar Island along with Coast Guard vessels to provide a security ring during the Gangasagar mela.

Gangasagar Mela is a Hindu fair which is held every year on the day of Makar Sankranti (14 January), lakhs of Hindus gather to take a holy dip at the confluence of river Ganges and Bay of Bengal and offer prayers (puja) in the Kapil Muni Temple.
