Mumbai, December 24: Local trains are considered as the lifeline of Mumbai. Nearly 65 lakh people travel by train daily in Central line and 35 lakh people in Western Line. However taking this into due consideration the railway ministry has every now and then taken proper measures to keep things feasible for people. Thus there is news about development in railways like the bullet train or new facilities available for people in the country.
The Railway Ministry has passed the proposal of starting an AC train in Mumbai and likewise the proposal has been accepted and has been approved. This came into notice when Piyush Goyal, Railway Minister spoke about this before the parliament and also confirmed the details about this upcoming train. The train is due to commence from 25th December. This proposal was passed in the parliament back in 2012-2013 but due to some technical issues it was on a standstill.
For starters this AC train will be from Churchgate to Borivili in Western Line. Piyush Goyal further added that the railways has acquired nine more electrical multiple unit (EMU) AC rakes for Mumbai so that such services can be operated both on the Western railway and Central railways. The fare related to the AC trains will be in accordance to the Delhi Metro fare. It has been estimated that around 108 to 112 passengers can travel in a coach.
Interesting features:
The much awaited train will have semi-indigenous technology which has been departed from the Internal Coach Factory in Chennai.
It has 2x15 ton capacity roof-mounted package AC units. The rake has electrically operated automatic sliding doors with its control in the hands of motorman.
A knob has been provided on top of entry/exit door frame to manually open door. A passenger talk-back facility at each doorway is also provided which can be used in an emergency.
No concession will be provided for the AC trains for seasonal ticket.
The train has been equipped with GPS and micro-processor-based software system, this 12-car local has a seating capacity of 1208 and standing capacity of 4936 passengers.
This seems like the people of the country are witnessing important and necessary changes. Along with the invention of trains for people the railway ministry also is looking forward to make more facilities available for people pertaining to their safety.
