New Delhi, December 22: Journalism is considered to be the ‘Fourth Pillar’ and also as the ‘Watchdog of Democracy’ for protecting the democracy of India. The Vice President, Venkaiah Naidu addressed this will inaugurating the Delhi School of Journalism in the Delhi University on 21st December. He further said that journalism is a unique vocation to bring out truth and is a mirror for the people.
Sanskrit being the oldest of the languages in India is included in the journalism curriculum. He said that it serves the people and the terms Freedom of Speech and Expression should be taken into due consideration as it is bounded by certain restrictions. Journalism has its benefits as it provides people with necessary information and is objective in its outlook towards people. The course as a profession should maintain high ethical and objective values.
Joyful, Objective, Unbaised, Responsible, Nationalist, Artistic, Lifelong Learner, Inquisitive, Strong and Mindful are some the qualities a journalist should possess. The structure of the course earlier included only English and Hindi but now even foreign languages would be added in the course. The Vice President also advised the students to be unbiased. They should shun the unhealthy practices such as sensationalism. Further h hopes this institute to be among the global institutes of Journalism.
