Haryana prepares for any natural disaster; Incident Response Centres to be set up in every district

Chandigarh, December 22: Natural calamities don’t send out a signal and strike us with sudden attacks. Hence, preparedness is very important to prevent loss of lives, properties during those difficult times. Haryana, the state which falls under the high seismic zone, conducted a statewide Mega Mock exercise on earthquake to check the reaction and response time. Haryana government has decided to Incident Response Centres are being set up in every district of the state under the supervision of Revenue and Disaster Management Department.

“Natural calamities cannot be predicted, it is essential to make all arrangements to lessen the loss of life and goods. Manpower in all departments has been trained for launching immediate relief and rescue operations, besides their routine duty,” Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said.

The mock drills were conducted in 122 locations across 22 districts simultaneously. The drills were also exercised at the Punjab and Haryana Civil Secretariat and the New Haryana Civil Secretariat in Chandigarh. Schools, offices, residential and shopping complexes, hospitals and major hazardous units across the state were chosen as locations of the drill.

“It is for the first time in Haryana’s history when the government has exercised the mock drill to such a big level. A total 136 teams were deployed in the districts for response consisted of district machinery and central agencies. Based on assumption, total number of casualties identified in this mega mock exercise is 257 and injured are 1717,” Haryana Revenue and Disaster Management minister Captain Abhimanyu said.
