Dehradun, December 15: While going on the pilgrimage of Chota Char Dham (Gsngotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath, Badrinath), you will often see pilgrims going by cars, helicopters, on the back of horses etc. But now a new mode will be introduced for transportation as the much awaited Chota Char Dham Rail route’s survey got a sanction in the year 2017-18.
This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri Rajen Gohain in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha today. The Chota Char Dham railway is Indian Railways's proposed twin railway lines, will compliment the Char Dham Highway project by connecting the holiest places of Hinduism called Chota Char Dham, from the existing Doiwala station near Dehradun to Gangotri and Yamunotri via a fork at Uttarkashi and another set of twin rail links from the upcoming railway station at Karnaprayag to Kedarnath and Badrinath via a fork at Saikot. The line is also of strategic military importance and has designated a national project.
The construction work of Uttarakhand’s much-awaited Rishikesh-Karnaprayag rail line has started. Work has been finalized by completing all formalities related to the construction of the first six km of the 125.20 km long rail line. In this train track, the passenger train will travel at upto 100 km per hour and the goods train at 65 km / hour.
Apart from this, the final location survey of the proposed 327 km rail line of Chota Char Dham rail route has also been completed. It is now undergoing a technical test. It was told that six kilometer work has been started from Virbhadra railway station. After the construction of this railway line, Rishikesh will be able to reach Karnprayag in just one and a half hours. This will provide plenty of convenience to local people as well as pilgrims.
