Patna, October 31: Favoring contractual teachers demand, the Patna high court on Tuesday said that equal pay for the same work is right. The bench Headed by the Chief Justice Rajendra Menon said that the constitutional provisions will be violated if equal pay for equal work is not given by the government.
According to the local media, on the behalf of contractual teachers Senior advocates Rajendra Prasad Singh, PK Shahi, Vishwanath Prasad Sinha had accused against the discrimination of salary which the teachers receive. While the advocate general Lalit Kishore on the behalf of Government said that government does not appoint teachers. Therefore, the principle of equal pay for the same work will not apply to the contractual teachers.
The petitioners had told the court that similar work is being taken from the teachers working in the secondary schools of the state, but the wages are not being given the same. The salary of contractual teachers is less than the fourth class employees employed in the school. The Teacher’s union welcomes the decision of the High Court and termed it as the victory of justice. The Contractual teachers Bihar had demanded an equal pay for similar work and approached the Patna High Court in support of their demands.
