New Delhi, October 24: The Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has celebrated its 56th raising day on Tuesday. The specialized mountain force was founded to protect the border areas from Karakoram Pass in Ladakh to Jachep La in Arunachal Pradesh which covers 3488 km of Indo-China Border.
Raised on 24 October 1962, it operates on Border Outposts of altitudes ranging to 21,000 ft in the Western, Middle and Eastern sectors of the Indo-China Border. It was formerly known as Indo Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBPF). It has a motto of Shaurya – Dridhata – Karm Nishtha (Valour – Steadfastness –Commitment)
Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted ITBP on the occasion of Raising day. He said that Greetings to ITBP family on their Raising Day. The Force has distinguished itself through its bravery & humanitarian ethos. The ITBP stands out for its special affinity with the Himalayas & prowess at high altitude operations.
On the occasion, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that greetings to all ITBP personnel & their families on the ‘Raising Day’. We salute the indomitable courage & invaluable service of the ITBP. He further added that Home Ministry has received a proposal for constructing 50 new ITBP Border Out Posts (BOPs). We will decide on it soon.
ITBP primarily works on multi-dimensional functions. It monitors the northern border to prevent it from the violations and also to make feel safe to local people. Illegal immigration and trans-border smuggling is checked and they maintain the peace by restoring and preserving order in the area of disturbances.
