Imphal, October 17: Today the well-known Tibet spiritual leader Dalai Lama arrived in Manipur who is on his three-day visit. Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and Assembly Speaker Yumnam Khemchand received the Dalai Lama. This will be his second visit to the Northeastern region since April this year.

There was tight security at the airport and the Dalai Lama came out in a bullet-proof vehicle. Soon after his arrival, he went to the Raj Bhavan to meet Governor Najma Heptullah.

The Imphal itinerary of the Dalai Lama includes a public reception at the Convention Centre followed by a felicitation programme. Officials said he will interact with both members of public and the invited dignitaries as part of the peace convention to be held on October 18.

This is the first time the Dalai Lama is visiting Manipur. His earlier visit to Arunachal Pradesh led to a diplomatic row between India and China. This visit was the massive one as devotees gathered to just get a look of Dalai Lama.
